1. The Basics                                                        ↑   Rear View  ↑

The Orchid PBX206 has capacity for up to 6 extensions and 2 exchange lines. The system provides eight RJ11 sockets...2 for lines and 6 for extensions. The Orchid PBX206 can be programmed with virtually any standard telephone set.

This is an excellent system but it is not expandable.  If you are going to require more than 2 lines and 6 extensions we suggest you consider the Orchid PBX 308 or the Orchid PBX416

2.  Where to locate the system

The system should be located near your exchange line sockets and a power point.  The Orchid 308 is wall mounted by drilling two holes, 8.5cm apart.  The installer simply adjusts the screw heads until the PBX fits firmly against the wall.

3. Connecting the exchange lines

Two line cords are provided with the system that have an RJ11 plug on one end and a BT socket on the other.  You simply plug the RJ-11 end of the lead into the Orchid PBX, the other end will be plugged into the BT (or other service provider) line socket.

4. Connecting the extensions (plug & play)

As can be seen from  the picture at the top, the Orchid PBX 206 has an RJ11 output for each of the six extensions.  Wiring can be avoided by using our RJ-11 to BT socket cords.  You simply plug the cords into the RJ-11 output on the control unit and plug your telephones into the socket at the other end of the lead....that really is all there is to it.

5. Music on hold

The Orchid PBX206 does not provide a port for connection of external music-on-hold nor does it provide internal music.  However, the system does provide a reassurance beep to callers which are placed on hold.

6. Programming

Programming is accomplished with a standard single line phone.  Details concerning system programming can be found in the System User Guide.

Paragraph 7 is for those who wish to wire the system in the traditional manner rather than using plug and play leads shown in paragraph 4..

7. Connecting the extensions - If your phones are located in several rooms, you may decide to 'wire' all or some of the extensions and not use the the plug and play cords shown in paragraph 4.

Purchase a pre-wired 78A connecting box (picture below) The box will have four line cords pre-wired to it (these are not shown in the picture).  One end of the line cord is terminated with an RJ11 plug that simply plugs into the Orchid PBX extension socket, the other end is already terminated on to the 78A box.  Remember...One box only handles four phones so if you are going to use the full capacity (6) you will require two boxes.

For each extension you simply run a 2-pair telephone cable (shown below) from the 78A box to a master socket and connect the two wires to pins 2 & 5.  This connection is not polarity sensitive...meaning it doesn't matter which way around you connect the two wires. By the way...an IDC tool is to connect these leads to the socket are included in the pre-wired 78A box.
