>  Phone Systems* The Panasonic KX-TA624...now superseded with the Panasonic KX-TES 824

The Panasonic KX-TA624 was supplied with an installation and programming manual but several installers have asked us for simplified installation notes. We hope the following helps.  We will do our best to keep the information up to date but mistakes can happen.  If you see any errors, or would like to make suggestions for improvement, please let us know.

Wiring from the system to the wall sockets is normally via an MDF (distribution box).   We supply sockets, cable, distribution box, external bells etc.,  which can be found by clicking on the TAB marked “Installation Material" above.

If your site is structured cabled (cat 5 etc.) it would probably be best for you to skip to paragraph 4.

We supply most spares and handsets for the KX-TA624 but it's worth having a look at the new KX-TES 824 before investing in new equipment.  The new release does offer certain advantage such as auto-attendant.

1. System  Construction

The basic Panasonic KX-TA624 system has a capacity of 8 extensions and 3 exchange lines. It is capable of supporting Panasonic analogue proprietary phones (Panasonic 7750, 7720, 7730) and / or single line devices such as ordinary phones, fax and data modems.  With the addition of option cards, the system can expand up to 6 exchange lines and 24 extensions with the addition of optional cards.

2. Wiring the extensions sockets to line jack units (telephone wall sockets).

The system is supplied with eight plug-ended extension cords that plug directly into eight sockets (numbered 01 to 08) located on top of the system.  The loose end of the cord (no plug) must be terminated to telephone sockets

The wiring colour code is as follows:

Black  to  pin 3 on socket

Red to pin 5 on socket

Green to 2 on socket

Yellow to  4 on socket

Note:

Pins 2 and 5 are the Voice pair

Pins 3 and 4 are the Data pair

A Panasonic 7730 ( or the earlier 7130) is used to configure the system and must be connected to the first extension jack (marked jack 01).  All proprietary phones (Panasonic7750, 7720, 7730,  7050, 7020, 7130) must be connected via a secondary wall socket (2/3A).  All four wires (as shown above) must be connected.

Ordinary phones can be connected to extension jacks 02 to 08.  For ordinary phones only connect two wires to the telephone sockets,  red to pin 5, and green to pin 2.  These must be connected to a master line jack unit (2/2A). DO NOT connect wires to pins 3 and 4.  You can identify a master socket because you'll see a fairly large capacitor (usually yellow) wired onto the circuit.

Paralleled connection

An ordinary extension (phone, answering machine etc) can be connected in parallel to a proprietary phone.  When an incoming call is received both phones will ring and either can answer the call.

To add an ordinary extension, in parallel to the Proprietary phone, you simply run a lead from pins 2 and 5 of the secondary socket to pins 2 and 5 of the master socket where the ordinary extension will be connected.

3.  Wiring to the exchange lines

In addition to the eight extensions cords already mentioned, the system is supplied with three plug-ended extension cords that plug directly into three sockets (numbered CO1 to CO3) located on the top of the system.  The loose end of the cord (no plug) must be terminated to the exchange lines.  If your exchange lines are terminated on a wall socket, you will wire the two wires to pins 2 and 5.

** Paragraph 4 is only applicable if you use structured cabling.

4.  Structured cabling, ( i.e. CAT-5 )...click on diagram

One or more rows of the patch panel are normally dedicated  to telephone extensions outlets.  This section of the patch panel will therefore need to be wired back to the KX-TA624 Control Unit.  When the outlet is for use with a standard telephone you will need to wire the voice pair (green and red wire) from the KX-TA 624 control unit to pins 4&5 - (normally blue/white & white/blue) on back of the patch panel.  When a Panasonic system-phone is to be connected to the telephone outlet you will also have to connect the the data pair (black and yellow wires) to pins1&2 (normally orange/white & white/orange).  If there is any doubt as to which connection to use, it would be best to connect only one extension between the control unit and the patch panel and test it before proceeding.

Patch leads will be used at the patch panel to connect (patch) the extension outlet to the appropriate outlet that leads to the correct RJ-45 socket.

Socket-adaptors.gif (6445 bytes)A "secondary" adapter will be needed at each RJ 45 socket where a system-phone will be connected and a master adapter will be required at each socket where a standard analogue telephone is to be used.

So...when ordering remember to include patch leads and adapters.   We supply patch panels, patch leads, adaptors etc.  If you have any doubt as to what is required simply give us a call and we will do our best to help.
